Not just Romans!
Jaw-dropping geology, formidable fortresses, intriguing science, stunning art... Hadrian's Wall Country offers experiences across the National Curriculum.

A rich history
The border country of England and Scotland continued to have a rich and sometimes violent history long after the Romans. The area is scattered with castles and keeps, priories and abbeys [1].

An artistic legacy
Many museums have a gallery section. There are also contemporary galleries such as the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art [2] in Gateshead.

Epic landscapes
The Romans took full advantage of the area's geology when building Hadrian's Wall. They used the line of north-facing cliffs created by the outcrop of the Great Whin Sill. The Sill - National Landscape Discovery Centre [3] provides a deeper understanding of its history-changing geography.
